Over the Sea 7

Someone asked me recently if I had been able to express the grief of my brother`s death in my work. I said no, I`m a landscape painter. Then I realized with a wave of emotion, these little 'Over the Sea' paintings were about my loss. They`re almost after thoughts, busy work, exercises to keep painting. Memory, legacy, respect and affection. These find a way.

That's interesting. You told me about your brother after you started posting this series and at a certain point, I just put 2 + 2 together and thought that's what these must be about. It is conveyed. How great that the grief can pass through you in this way.

Turmoil, brewing storm clouds, eruptions, disruption, anger - your painting is evocative of a myriad of emotions in response to loss. Grief will out - one way or another.

And the painting is wonderfully executed.
