Reed Canyon Spring

I just spent the afternoon walking through Reed Canyon observing the budding vegetation. I`m thinking of the long 'narrative' work I want to paint of intimate views of the water`s edge. New life from the primal muck. This painting is from a couple of years ago. Same canyon but at that time I was looking up not down.

Award

The Zen Master of Canadian watercolor, Edith Dora Rey, has bestowed on me this award. I`m honored. Her blog is as entertaining as a new National Geographic and her work is grace itself. I`ve taken the $5000 prize money and bought a tube of cadmium red.

Live Oak

High Mountain Rivulet

This improvisation became more and more simple. As I eliminated stuff it took on the character of a high altitude stream. I`ve been in the Rockies a few times at 10,000 feet in the summer. Snow melt creates lots of little waterways that cut through the dense meadows. It smells of health and everything living is ready in this short season. Even the air feels alive.
