Plein Air Cottonwoods and Adventure

A couple of hours ago, I was sitting in a tangle of bushes, painting in the shade, using the adorable miniature paint box Jo Reimer made me. I heard movement behind for quite some time and figured it was a cow coming to the little stream for a drink. This is a cattle ranch. When it got very close I began to wonder if it was going to intrude, but thought it unlikely. Suddenly a huge moose head emerges about 8 feet away. Got my adrenaline going as I stumbled away from it. But it kept making these sounds that were like questions, it must have been curious. I decided to go back across the water and get my stuff and when I did it ran away. I came back to the studio and went out again in a different direction and did this drawing of cottonwoods with a watercolor crayon.

If I'd known those drawings were in that little box I'd have kept it for myself. I'm glad you're safe from the bull moose. They can be dangerous but it sounds like he might have been just another art lover.

While traveling in Alaska we were told that moose can be more dangerous than bear! Glad you were able to moosey on over to safety!

Oh, I'm glad that moose was just curious and not aggressive - perhaps just wondering what you were doing there in the woods? Perhaps an homage to the moose in your next painting is sure to come! ha ha I like both of these - the top, because of the starkness and beauty reminds me of winter landscapes - you capture trees with beautiful lines and angles (something I need to learn).

A moose! Glad you avoided any direct argument with him (or her?). The things you have to go through for your art! :)
