I needed to go into Michael`s Craft Store yesterday. Painters are always showing me cool stuff they bought there. This is daunting but I decided I`d explore a little bit. My timidity was justified. Every supply you`d need to make anything at all was available. It was overwhelming and busy! at 9 a.m.! I was also trying to get used to new glasses, a big mistake. I staggered out sort of nauseous with some water soluble graphite pencils and a pad of paper and did this drawing last night.
watercolor and graphite on paper 8x6
You could test new glasses every week to do that sharp drawing! Very zen…
ReplyDeleteIt makes me think of some works by french painter Jean Degottex (one is a print of a rose quite affordable we saw very long ago with my wife, and didn't buy because we're students, and it was obviously a mistake!).
It's always more than a pleasure to see your fresh work.
Maybe you could hire a personal shopper, Randall. (I feel the same way going into most groceries. One can get lost in a Wegman's.)
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing your drawings. I like this one.
Beautiful in its simplicity. Hope you adjust to the glasses soon :) I haven't been in a Michael's store in ages - so much stuff!!
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning and inspiring!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful drawing & funny story. I always feel the same way after a trip to Michael's!
ReplyDeleteAnd you can also use Michael's coupons on your art supplies, saves on the pocket book! Another bonus, there are a lot more Michael's than there are Dick Blick stores or similar art supply stores. Jo Ann Fabrics also has a small art supply area; I've been buying my paper palette's there with 40% & 50% coupons. I hear ya about new glasses, I get mine this week.....I hate that adjustment period!
