High Mountain Rivulet

This improvisation became more and more simple. As I eliminated stuff it took on the character of a high altitude stream. I`ve been in the Rockies a few times at 10,000 feet in the summer. Snow melt creates lots of little waterways that cut through the dense meadows. It smells of health and everything living is ready in this short season. Even the air feels alive.

Winter Marsh


New oil painting! Not exactly what I was after but I`ll keep it. These swampy winter-dead edges of streams and lakes fascinate me. I want to suggest all the teeming life they contain without botanical detail.
